Highlights of the Auction

Sports Memorabilia

Among the notable items is a racing suit signed by former Formula One legend Michael Schumacher. This piece of memorabilia is expected to attract significant attention from motorsport enthusiasts worldwide.

Rare Sneakers

A highlight of the sneaker collection is a pair of Nike’s “Moon Shoe,” which Mr. Nadal bought for a record-breaking $437,500 in 2019. Additionally, the collection includes original Air Jordan sneakers signed by basketball legend Michael Jordan and a pair of Nike sneakers inspired by the movie "Back to the Future," one of only 89 pairs globally.

Luxury Cars

The car collection is equally impressive, featuring more than 100 rare vehicles. Among them are five classic red Ferraris worth a collective $20.25 million. These include the 288 GTO, F40, F50, Enzo, and LaFerrari, often referred to as the “Big 5” Ferraris. Other notable cars include a 2015 McLaren P1, one of only 350 in existence, and a 2008 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 that formerly belonged to British TV personality and record producer Simon Cowell.

Reason for the Auction

In interviews, Mr. Nadal, who began collecting rare cars and memorabilia over 25 years ago, mentioned that he decided to auction part of his collection to clear space and donate proceeds to charity. “I'm 66 years of age, I kind of want to enjoy the fruits of my labor and try and make the world a better place,” he told BNN Bloomberg earlier this year.

Background on Miles Nadal

Miles Nadal, once one of Canada’s highest-paid CEOs, made his fortune after founding the advertising firm MDC Partners Inc. The company was previously involved in an expense investigation by the US Securities and Exchange Commission, resulting in Mr. Nadal agreeing to repay $12.5 million in expenses and retention pay. Despite this, he has continued to be a noted philanthropist, donating millions to institutions like Mount Sinai Hospital and York University in Toronto.

The Collection's Legacy

Mr. Nadal described his collection as a result of “emotional investments” in items that genuinely interested him. However, he admitted that maintaining such an extensive collection had become challenging, prompting his decision to part with some pieces.

Auction Details

The RM Sotheby’s auction is set to be a landmark event, drawing interest from collectors and enthusiasts around the globe. The impressive lineup of items showcases not only the financial value but also the rich history and cultural significance of the collection.
