Amazon announces a €1.2 billion investment in France, creating 3,000 jobs and enhancing AI and logistics infrastructure.

Boosting French Infrastructure and AI

  • This announcement follows the French presidency's reveal on Sunday that companies like Amazon, GSK, and Accenture would be making major investments as part of France's annual "Choose France" event. Amazon Web Services (AWS) will utilize this investment to bolster its cloud infrastructure in the Paris region, catering to France's thriving Generative AI (GenAI) sector. Additionally, logistics infrastructure in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region will see improvements.

France: A Hub for AI Innovation

  • The growing demand for cloud services fueled by the popularity of GenAI positions France as a key player in the AI landscape. The country boasts promising startups like Mistral and Poolside alongside established players like Meta and Google, who have set up AI research centers in France.

Amazon's Continued Commitment to France

  • Since 2010, Amazon has poured over €20 billion into its French operations, employing more than 22,000 permanent workers across its cloud and online retail sectors. "These jobs are on top of the 2,000 positions we announced for 2024," stated Frédéric Duval, Country Manager at Amazon France.

Logistics Expansion for Speed and Sustainability

  • Part of the investment will also be directed towards expanding Amazon's French logistics network, aiming to enhance delivery speed while simultaneously reducing carbon emissions. The company currently operates over 35 logistics facilities throughout France.
