Detention Room Introduced in Romanian Schools Under New Student Statute Starting September

Key Changes in the New Student Statute

The Ministry of Education announced on Facebook the main changes included in the new student statute, which will come into effect with the start of the new school year in September. Under the new rules, teachers have the authority to send students who disrupt class to a designated detention room. These students will be supervised by a different teacher or auxiliary staff member during their time in the detention room.

Implementation Details

When a student is sent to the detention room, their parents will be informed of the situation. Importantly, the student will not be marked absent for the class they missed due to being in detention. Each teacher has the discretion to decide whether to send a disruptive student to the detention room during their own class period.

School-Specific Regulations

The Ministry of Education emphasized that each school will develop its own specific regulations regarding the implementation of this new provision, based on the resources available. This ensures that the new policy can be adapted to fit the unique needs and capabilities of individual schools.

Objective and Impact

The introduction of detention rooms is aimed at improving the learning environment by reducing disruptions during class. It also provides a temporary solution for managing students who may need additional support or discipline, without resorting to harsher punitive measures.

As Romanian schools prepare for the upcoming academic year, the new student statute represents a significant shift in how disciplinary issues are handled. By incorporating detention rooms, the Ministry of Education hopes to create a more conducive learning environment while ensuring that students receive appropriate supervision and support.
