Louis Vuitton's new 2024 collection showcases shirts inspired by the traditional attire of Mărginimea Sibiului, without acknowledging their origin or obtaining consent from the cultural heritage custodians. La Blouse roumaine's Facebook page initiated a campaign urging the brand to "withdraw the pieces from the collection until the origin is credited."
The "Give Credit" campaign calls for the brand to "remove the pieces from the collection until obtaining consent from the communities, with proper origin acknowledgment." The message posted on La Blouse roumaine invites communities from Mărginimea Sibiului, Oltenia de sub munte, Ţara Făgăraşului, Argeş, Southern and Central Transylvania, as well as individuals, collectors, artisans, and enthusiasts of the Mărginime shirt and specific attire to support the cause.
The public is encouraged to share photos of the Mărginime shirt under the post, mentioning the region and providing a brief description. They are urged to request Louis Vuitton to withdraw the pieces from the collection until obtaining consent from the communities, with proper acknowledgment. Additionally, organized groups, associations, foundations, initiative groups, companies, etc., are requested to send official support messages to contact@lablouseroumaine.io.
Thousands of people have already engaged with the message, showing solidarity with the cause. The blouse, designed by Nicolas Ghesquière, is described as "this airy blouse adorns a romantic silhouette with graphic details for a fresh, bohemian look. It is made of linen, in a loose cut, with balloon sleeves and neckline accentuated with contrasting lace inserts. The waist and cuffs are elastic to emphasize the volume, while the wide leather ties add dimension to the front," as described on the Louis Vuitton website.
