Minister Grindeanu's Remarks

"We have invested in the railway, now we have these investments of approximately half a billion, and we also have those investments in the railway of around one billion around the Port of Constanta."

Additional Rail Infrastructure Investments

  • Beyond the port-specific investments, Minister Grindeanu also highlighted the ongoing procurement of 160 new train sets, expressing hope that some of these deliveries will materialize by the end of the year. These acquisitions are part of a broader effort to modernize and expand Romania's rail network.

Efficient Utilization of EU Funds

He further emphasized the ongoing construction of 780 kilometers of express roads and motorways, financed by both previous and current EU programming periods.

Anticipation of Swift EU Fund Utilization

  • Expressing confidence in the ministry's execution capabilities, Minister Grindeanu projected that if the current pace is maintained, "EU funds for transport will be exhausted very quickly."

Overall Significance

  • The €1.5 billion investment package for Constanta Port and rail infrastructure represents a significant commitment from the Romanian government to enhance the country's maritime and logistics capabilities. These upgrades are expected to boost trade, improve connectivity, and position Romania as a key player in the regional and global transportation landscape.
