The Romanian Ministry of Education has announced new scholarships for students. The scholarships, which are worth 300 lei per month, will be awarded to students with a general average of over 7 and who are in the top third of their class.
The new scholarships, called "resilience scholarships," are designed to motivate students with average results to progress and improve their academic performance. The amount of the scholarship is 300 lei per month, and the eligibility criteria include obtaining an annual average of at least 7 and being ranked in the top 30% of the class based on academic results.
The resilience scholarship will also be awarded to students who suffer from oncological or chronic diseases and who are enrolled for more than 4 weeks in a hospital or home school. This category of beneficiaries is newly introduced both in the resilience scholarship and in the social scholarship.
The new scholarships are part of a broader effort by the Romanian government to improve the quality of education in the country. Other measures include:
Increasing teacher salaries
Investing in new school infrastructure
Updating the curriculum
The Romanian government hopes that the new scholarships will help to:
Improve student motivation
Reduce dropout rates
Increase the number of students who go on to higher education
The new scholarships will be awarded starting with the 2024-2025 school year.
