RUR World University Rankings: Methodology and Metrics

The RUR World University Rankings evaluate the performance of over 1,200 leading higher education institutions worldwide. The ranking methodology employs 20 indicators grouped into four key domains:

  1. Teaching: Assesses the quality of instruction and the effectiveness of learning outcomes.

  2. Research: Evaluates the university's research activities, publications, and contributions to knowledge creation.

  3. International Diversity: Measures the level of internationalization within the university community, including faculty, students, and research collaborations.

  4. Financial Sustainability: Assesses the university's financial health and its ability to secure funding for its operations and future development.

Romania's Ranking Position and Top Performers

This year, Romanian universities failed to break into the top half of the rankings. The highest-ranked Romanian institution, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Carol Davila" in Bucharest, secured a position of 610th overall. However, it demonstrated excellence in teaching, securing 284th place in this specific category.

Romania's presence in the RUR rankings extends to 16 institutions in total. Following the University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Carol Davila," the University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Iuliu Hațieganu" in Cluj-Napoca occupies the 702nd position. The University of Bucharest takes the 717th spot, while the University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry and Pharmacy "George Emil Palade" in Târgu Mureș follows at 748th place.

Global Dominance of American and British Universities

The top 10 universities in the RUR rankings are predominantly American, with the United States securing seven spots. The remaining three positions are held by one university each from the United Kingdom and China. This global dominance highlights the strength of higher education in these countries.
