U.S. Conducts Minuteman III Test Launch to Showcase Nuclear Deterrence Capabilities

On June 4, 2024, a joint Air Force Global Strike Command and Space Force team successfully launched an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California. This routine test underscores the continued effectiveness and reliability of the U.S. nuclear deterrent.

Test Launch Details

The unarmed Minuteman III traveled approximately 4,200 miles to the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command's Ronald Reagan Ballistic Missile Defense Test Site. Data collected during the test will support ongoing research and evaluation efforts for America's defense and space programs.

Colonel Chris Cruise, Commander of the 377th Test and Evaluation Group, emphasized the dedication of Air Force personnel to maintaining and operating ICBMs with the utmost professionalism.
